Finding The Will To Live
Cancer affects millions of people worldwide, and finding that you too are suffering from cancer can be absolutely devastating. For some people, dealing with cancer can overwhelm them emotionally, leading to depression and a loss of the will to live. While it is true that fighting cancer is not easy, there are good reasons to stay positive. If you or a loved one is struggling with depression as a result of cancer, there are ways to find the will to live again.
Everyone wants to feel loved and needed, and this is especially true of cancer patients. Instead of pulling away from people and isolating yourself as a result of your illness, you should try hard to keep and strengthen family bonds and friendships. Romance is important as well; feelings of warmth and tenderness found in romantic relationships help reassure you and give you the will to continue living despite the difficulties you are facing with your health.
When you are dealing with something so intense and overwhelming as cancer, with the chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and doctors visit that it entails, finding distractions from your illness is vital. There are lots of ways to distract yourself; you can take up a new hobby or get going again with one you used to love. Spending time with family and friends can serve as a huge distraction as well, and, as mentioned, the human connection is important.
Being realistic, there will be times when you do not feel like going on any longer. But do not keep those feelings to yourself; by expressing yourself honesty to loved ones who are supporting you, you will be able to find peace of mind and a reason to keep on fighting. Remember that you are not alone, and there are lots of reasons to keep on living and keep on fighting the cancer.
