Remind your doctors that they are working for you!

Most doctors have nothing but a patient’s well being as their primary concern, though there are a few that do not hold true to this. As patients, we put a lot of trust in our doctors and we expect the very best care they can give us. After all, we do pay for their services and sometimes quite dearly. There are a variety of reasons patients may not have a good relationship with a doctor and not all of the reasons are due to anything they may or may not have done. Many doctors could have an extreme work schedule that has burned them out or they may be dealing with too heavy of a patient load. None of these reasons are enough to allow poor treatment from a doctor or misdiagnoses. How the doctor came to this sad state of affairs should not be a concern, getting the very best in health care is the paramount concern a person should have when choosing their doctor.
Here are some signs of a bad doctor:
·         Poor communication
Poor communication is a warning sign that lets you know that the doctor may not be the one for you. If you want to get the best medical care to be had, you will want to be completely certain your doctor is eager and capable to take part in effectual, two-way communication. Your doctor should not be in a hurry. He ought to listen to you when you talk about your warning signs, and he should converse about your uncertainties with you. Your doctor should not disrupt you or seem as if he knows what you are going to say before you say it. This kind of thing can cause medical problems to be diagnosed erroneously or simply missed. It doesn’t matter how active your doctor is. A doctor should always have time to listen to you and to ask you questions about your symptoms.
·         Many bad doctors have a pill for whatever ails you
Competent doctors will always have an open mind about the treatments that need to be used and will consider safe alternatives such as natural remedies and alternative treatments. Bad doctors find it most expedient to just write a prescription that might treat your symptoms. Pills are not always the answer and any doctor who tells you it is, is not a good doctor. Many natural remedies and life changes can relieve conditions such as high blood pressure.
·         The doctor does not follow their own advice.
Any doctor that gives advice they will not follow themselves is not a credible source for treatment. Good doctors will set a good example to their patients with their lifestyle choices and fitness regimen that they follow themselves.
·         Doctors who give little or no information are not doing their job
A doctor that hands you a prescription and rush off to their next patient is not doing what you hired them to do. A good doctor explains your condition and the treatment(s) for your particular condition. Though the doctor may not have time to give you a complete history, they should be capable of letting you know everything that is pertinent to your condition. You have the right to know the full diagnosis, the tests and results of the tests that have been taken and what side effects may be present during your treatment.
Communication on the phone is impossible with a bad doctor
Good doctors make sure you are able to contact them no matter what time of day or night it is. When it is not possible to reach the doctor, the doctor should have a colleague that fills in when your doctor is not available. A bad doctor makes sure they are not disturbed in the evening or on weekends.
A reputable and competent doctor will be informed about the latest medicines and alternative approaches as well. Your doctor should take the time to understand your concerns, address those fears and explain all you need to know to stay in the best of health. It doesn’t hurt to remind your doctor that they are working for you. Having good communication with your primary physician is vital to good health and fitness.
