Do our emotions play a part in our health?

Are you one of the people who cannot eat when they are upset for fear the food will come right back up? Or could you be one of the individuals that when upset, consumes food as a comfort agent? In both instances the emotional state is affecting the health of those individuals. Many times the emotional state that one has plays a very big role in how the rest of the body functions.
Emotional Health
Individuals that allow life to overwhelm them are usually in an emotional state that causes high blood pressure, heart palpitations, digestive problems, sleeplessness and irritability, not to mention mental drain. Emotions do directly affect the health of the body and the results are not nice when the emotional state is not a happy one. Learning to control one’s emotional state may seem like a really tough task, but it is well worth whatever effort you put into it. If your emotions are bouncing all over there is little constructive, healthy living going on, especially inside the body of the individual who is constantly in an uproar. The individuals who are living with this condition can testify that this is a miserable way to live. By getting control of the emotional health of your body, you also are making steps to control the overall general health you experience.
The secret to good emotional health is handling your emotions in a constructive rather than destructive manner. Balance is the key to good health and a good life. Balance will give you:

  • A normal heart rate
  • Normal blood pressure
  • Reduce stress
  • Help your digestion
  • Happiness
  • Peace
  • Contentment
  • Emotional well being

The feelings of helplessness and discouragement
The feelings of helplessness and discouragement happen when you do not control the state of your emotions. Life becomes a burden in your mind. This is no way to live! Take charge of your emotions and learn how to effectively deal with any situation that may crop up in your life. Having happiness and good health is essential to having a sense of achievement in your life. Humans are multi-dimensional creatures. No matter who the individual is there are thoughts and feelings, some good and some we would rather not experience at all.
Balance
Emotions that interfere with your health have to be dealt with in order to bring balance back to your life. Good health is all about maintaining balance in all areas of your life, to include your emotional reactions to different situations and events. Having pent up emotions can be just as bad as emotions that have run wild. Eventually there will be an explosion point and this could happen in different manners, such as a heart attack or stroke, or manifest in eating disorders, violent temper outbursts, or emotional breakdowns of other types.
Learning to stay in control
Learning to stay in control of your emotions takes time and practice, but once you achieve control, you can better interact with society, your family and coworkers and even people you will only meet once. Your body expects a certain amount of “flight or fight’ reactions in difficult situations, but by reasoning through your problems and reacting in a calm manner, you can maintain a balance in your health and in your life.
