What’s the difference between macrobiotic and raw food diets?

Macrobiotics
The low-fat, high fiber diet that features predominantly vegetables is the macrobiotic diet. Whole grains and vegetables as well as soy products are rich in nutrients and phytoestrogens that are found in soy products.
Low fat and high fiber diets are often prescribed for individuals that have cancer or other chronic diseases and the macrobiotic diet fits right into this category. The phytoestrogens are believed to be protective of the immune system and reduces the risk of estrogen related cancers like breast cancer. Further research is being done in order to fully understand if the macrobiotic diet is effective in cancer prevention or the treatment of cancer.
The North American diet has become one big saturated fat menu, the macrobiotic diet emphasizes foods such as fiber filled whole grains, vegetables and beans. This diet is low in the saturated fats and high in phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are believed to help balance hormones in females at different stages of their lives, such as menopause, premenstrual syndrome and the prevention of breast cancer and endometriosis.
For those who may be concerned about eating a diet that will not raise their blood sugar or cholesterol, or those who are lactose intolerant, the macrobiotic diet is low in sugar, dairy products and meat.
Raw food diets
What is the Raw Food Diet?
Unprocessed and uncooked plant based foods make up the raw food diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables, seeds, nuts, beans, dried fruits, seaweed, sprouts and grains are all a part of the raw food diet.
Many believe that heating food over 116°F destroys the vital enzymes in food that assist in digestion and the absorption of food. It is also believed that much of the nutritional value of food is lost through cooking. In a typical raw food diet, at least three quarters of the food is to be living or raw.
Both diet types, macrobiotic and raw food diets, focus on fresh organic fruits, vegetables and little or no animal products or byproducts. The macrobiotic diet includes much more from the animal products, not many individuals want to eat raw meat, so the raw food diet usually will only include raw fish or sea foods. Rarely do individuals go so far as eating fowl, beef, or pork raw.
